Raise The Roof at the Denver FilmCenter/Colfax

 
      The Denver Film Society is throwing three neighborhood block parties on June 14, July 12, and August 9 from 5-9 p.m. at the Lowenstein CulturePlex, 2510 E. Colfax, home to the Denver FilmCenter/Colfax, Tattered Cover, and Twist & Shout.  The RAISE THE ROOF neighborhood celebrations will feature free live music and entertainment along with local food, drinks, and one of the best views of Denver’s skyline and the Rocky Mountains as seen from the roof of the Denver FilmCenter/Colfax.
“When the Denver FilmCenter joined the Capitol Hill neighborhood 18 months ago, we were excited to be part of one the great areas of our city,” said Ryan Oestreich, Director of the Denver FilmCenter/Colfax. “Now we want to give something back to this wonderful community and to open our doors to people who haven’t had the opportunity to experience our FilmCenter and the other terrific businesses that make up this Cultureplex.”
     The CulturePlex rooftop will open at 5 p.m., music begins at 6 p.m.  Attendees will be given an invitation for a free feature film screening at 9 p.m. on the evening of the party or have the option to return for a film on a future day at the Denver FilmCenter/Colfax theaters.
     Restaurant members of the Colfax Business Improvement District will be offering some of Denver’s best food for purchase on the rooftop between 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. each night.
     Among the musicians and variety acts performing will be: Chella Negro & The Charm and Ian Cooke along with the Fine Gentlemen’s Club comedy troupe on June 14; the winner of Denver Comic Con’s battle of the bands and the music of Fairchildren and Tom Hagerman (of DeVotchKa) and Friends! on July 12; ManCub and Mike Marchant with Spoken Word presented by Tattered Cover Book Store on August 9. Denver MCs Magic Cyclops will host June 14 and Sid Pink will be the host on July 12 and August 9.

     Since moving from the Starz FilmCenter on the Auraria Campus to its new home on East Colfax in 2010,the Denver FilmCenter has hosted more than 50,000 moviegoers and screened over 250 films.
Founded in 1978, the Denver Film Society sponsors Film on the Rocks and the Starz Denver Film Festival, along with many special film series and educational programs.   A non-profit organization, the Society has 2500 members and is the only nonprofit organization in Colorado dedicated to engaging both its members and the general public in a lifelong, life-altering relationship with and understanding of film and film culture.
