To get your fill of the East Colfax scene, squeeze into Pete’s Kitchen at 1962 East Colfax Avenue with the crowds craving its abundant breakfasts, cheeseburgers and Greek specials.  Pete Contos, the owner, came to the U.S. from Greece in 1955 and created an eight restaurant empire.  Contos is said to have introduced gyros to the city and has been instrumental in the development of “Greek Town”, a section of the Avenue east of Colorado Boulevard. The neon sign at Pete’s Kitchen is considered a classic, as is that of the Satire Lounge to the west.
