AURORA | An “escaped” federal prisoner suspected in two metro-area bank robberies was arrested Monday at a motel on East Colfax Avenue in Aurora.
Robert Gilmour Estes, 59, was arrested at about 10:30 a.m.
at the Radiant Inn near Colfax and Joliet
Street, according to a statement from the U.S. Marshals
Service.
According to the FBI, Estes failed to report to a federal
detention facility Oct. 15 and was later charged with escape. After he failed
to report, the FBI said Estes robbed a US Bank in Denver
and another in Englewood.
Marshals last week asked the public for help in finding
Estes and on Monday tracked him to the motel in Aurora.
“Thanks to the hard work and dedication our
fugitive-investigators, this violent bank robber is now again in custody where
he no longer poses a risk to the community,” Marshals Chief Deputy Kenneth Deal
said in a statement.
