In PAINTED BREAD, the life of famed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (played by Karen Slack) is explored through a series of self portraits which come to life onstage, dramatically capturing her boisterous sense of humor, her love of Mexican culture and her passion for painting. Kahlo’s works often combined affection and anguish, sadness and sarcasm, the intimate and the collective. McCarl’s play reveals the highs and lows of a life lived fully and fervidly.
