The Future of East Colfax Avenue

     Aurora is looking for residents to chime in on the future of the growing East Colfax Avenue corridor.
City planners are launching a new strategic visioning process for the stretch of Colfax Avenue from Interstate 225 to Yosemite Street. Officials are working to update the original vision for the area, which was first developed in 2000.
     About 140 local residents, business owners, developers and property owners attended the city’s first set of workshops, which were held last month, said Moira Dungan, senior development project manager for the department of planning and development services.
     Attendees were asked to identify the “treasures and challenges” of the area, which resulted in nearly 20 pages of responses, she said. Those comments will be used to help create a new vision statement for the corridor at the next set of workshops, slated for Aug. 22 and 23.
     “We’re hoping for a great turnout for this next series,” Dungan said.
     Two additional sets of workshops will be scheduled after that to help define focus areas, land use and circulation, in addition to identifying future development strategies for the area.
