He returned to record store racks in 2004 with the album “It’s About Time.”

Day has appeared in films such as Prince’s “Purple Rain” in 1984; the sequel, 1990’s “Graffiti Bridge”; and 2001’s “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.”

Shortly after the release of their current WORLD ON FIRE album--SLASH’s third straight solo album to debut in the Top Ten in the U.S and the second album with his official band The Conspirators--the iconic American rock guitarist, songwriter and film producer SLASH took the stage with his band THE CONSPIRATORS at the legendary Roxy Theatre on Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, CA. A staple of rock history that helped birth countless bands, including Guns ‘N’ Roses, the atmospheric venue gave fans a brilliant opportunity to see the band up close as they delivered a set packed with recent solo tracks, including several from the new album WORLD ON FIRE, and classics from Slash’s days with Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver: “Ghost,” “Back From Cali,” “World On Fire,” “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” “Anastasia,” “Paradise City,” “Slither,” “Nightrain” and many more. The intimate setting inspired the band to deliver a scintillating, dynamic performance that is brilliantly captured on LIVE AT THE ROXY 9/25/14. SLASH’s guitar prowess paired with the raw energy of MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS proves a truly potent live force and LIVE AT THE ROXY 9/25/14 sets the benchmark for high octane rock n roll shows.

Recently, SLASH and his band partnered with IFAW, the International Fund for Animal Welfare to raise awareness of the slaughter of elephants which is leading to their early extinction. To watch the video for “Beneath The Savage Sun” and get the song for free, donate to IFAW (here) and Take Action (here). The U.S.-based charity IFAW works around the world on every aspect of the elephant crisis--on the front lines to stop the killing of elephants, in transit countries to stop the trafficking of ivory and in consumer countries to stop the demand for ivory products. Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood reunited with guitar stolen in Denver in 1995

by Julio Enriquez

Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood can give a firsthand account of the perils of Colfax.

In 1995, one of Greenwood’s guitars — an Ebony Frost Fender Telecaster Plus — was among the equipment stolen when Radiohead’s rental truck went missing outside of a Denver Days Inn.

“Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke and guitarist Jonny Greenwood played an acoustic set on rented gear that night, and then canceled a handful of shows while the band went on a shopping spree for instruments and amplifiers,” The Rocky Mountain News’ Michael Mehle wrote a year after the incident. “The stolen equipment has never been recovered.”

When the band gave Denver a “second chance” a year later to play the Ogden Theatre in 1996, bassist Colin Greenwood told the Rocky Mountain News, “I don’t think the gear will be leaving our sight for a second.”

Now, nearly two decades later, the King of Gear reports that Jonny Greenwood has been reunited with one of his guitars stolen during the incident.

According to the King of Gear, a fan recognized the Ebony Frost Fender Telecaster Plus as Greenwood’s stolen guitar. King of Gear functioned as a middleman and facilitated the safe delivery of the long lost guitar.
As the King of Gear writes:
Last year, someone contacted me via email, saying that they were browsing the site and recognized Jonny’s Ebony Frost Fender Telecaster Plus (old Tele2) as one that they had purchased in the 90’s in Denver, CO (the city in which all of the band’s gear was stolen on October 04, 1995). I directed them to Plank, the band’s guitar tech, and the result was that after nineteen years, the guitar was finally returned to Jonny.

Biennial of the Americas kicks off July 14

“NOW!” is the prevailing theme of the Biennial of the Americas, the international festival kicking off July 14 in Denver to celebrate ideas, art and culture.

Planning and cultural exchanges have been in process for the past year with artists from Mexico City, and while Biennial of the Americas events will continue through Aug. 30, the opening week will be filled with special international events.

● The Opening Night Street Party and Celebration will be held from 8-11 p.m. July 14 at the Biennial Pavilion, 1550 Wewatta St., and at the nearby Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, 1485 Delgany St., both in Denver. An ongoing art project, led by Francisco Alvarado Juarez and Denver artists, will reflect the NOW! theme and continue through the week.

The party will feature music by the Flobots and Making Movies in this festive urban outdoor space that will host events through the week. Partygoers will be escorted from the pavilion across 15th Street to the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, where a new exhibit, “Now? NOW!” will open with food, music and beverages.

● Biennial Night at Civic Center, in partnership with the Levitt Pavilion Denver, starts at 5 p.m. July 17 in Civic Center park off Broadway and Colfax Avenue, with performances starting at 7 p.m. Food trucks will be on hand, and there will be fun for all ages. Brazilian Companhia Urbana de Danca will perform, as will Canadian modern artist and emcee Jeremy Bailey, musicians Black Violin and the Wonderbound Dance Company. Ian Cooke will perform with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. At 10 p.m., Latin Grammy Award winners will close out the evening. Events are free aside from food purchase.

Free daytime events include:

● July 15, STEAM (STEM+Art) Day, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Biennial Pavilion, 1550 Wewatta St.

● July 16, Community Day at the Biennial Pavilion, 1550 Wewatta St. Events and performances 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Smithsonian presentation, Spanish karaoke, Motus Theatre, Los Dreamers, Café Cultura.

● July 17, Futbol Friday, Civic Center park in downtown Denver, 1 to 4 p.m.. Soccer in the Park, Youth Skills course hosted by the Colorado Rapids.

● July 18, Performing Arts Day, Biennial Pavilion, 1550 Wewatta St., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Redline Performing Arts NOW!, Playground Ensemble with eight chamber music postcards, thematically related to the Biennial by professional composers.

● July 18, evening, Performance Art Night Denver at the Biennial Pavilion, with 20 performance works from different cultural backgrounds and completion of the ongoing installation.

● July 19, Companhia Urbana de Danca, 2 p.m. at Newman Center, University of Denver, full-length performance. Related workshops and master classes are planned.

Since planning has been ongoing both locally and internationally, we'd suggest a visit to the website, biennialoftheamericas.org, for final information and a complete roster of events through August.

These events offer unique opportunities for families to increase their knowledge about arts in the Americas.
