The former Blue Onion Restaurant building on East Colfax has been demolished. The building has been vacant for a few years and the Blue Onion signage was removed decades ago, but it's still sad to see it go.
I worked there when I was 15 in 1980 as a bus boy. That was one of the last lounge bars left. I feel old and sad
ReplyDeleteI worked as a bus boy also, this is1976.
DeleteWe ate there all the time. They had this Chinese noodle soup dish called warmein. It was so good.
ReplyDeleteMy family always ate at the Blue Onion. We knew the cook there(Toy). Wonderful food.
ReplyDeleteMy father is Reggie, he was the piano player there , worked for Babe and Don most of the 70s and early 80s. I have the best memories running around and stealing cherries from the bar
ReplyDeleteI remember your Dad. I lived in the house nextdoor which was owned by Don. I used to have pictures of the side of the building with the dog characters which was each of the employees. Cutest thing ever.
DeleteMy Dad was Don. I would love to have a picture of the mural that was on the side of the building! I remember it well. The painter did a great likeness of all the people who made that place so special. My Dad passed away this May. He lived to be 90.
DeleteMy grandmother Jewell Fisak was hired by the owners to manage the motel in 1969-1971, after her husband passed away who was friends with the owners. I have such memories of hanging out there with my grandmother who lived and worked at the Blue Onion Motel.
