Cahoots - Legend of the Parlangua

Because the lyrics of the Legend of the Parlangua deal with the theme of the Louisiana Swamps, many people think it was recorded by a Cajun band. However, it was actually recorded by a Colorado based band.

Cahoots was a house band in Aurora Colorado in the mid-eighties. They played at a historic country music club called 4 Seasons. The band was fronted by Lloyd Barnett, an talented songwriter and performer. His wife Annie backed him on vocals and did lead on several songs.

The Cahoots band was comprised of Lloyd Barnett (bass, vocals and wrote most of the songs), Ann Marie Barnette (his wife and singer), Willy Angel (lead guitar), Mac Eisensohn (drums), Vaughn Meyer (keyboards) and a few others. The group broke up after recording the Legend of the Parlangua.

Many people confuse this band with other similarly named groups. This is not the group named IN CAHOOTS based in England. Also, it is not the Cajun band named The Cahoots. (Legend of the Parlangua song was released in the 1983. The cajun band "Cahoots" didn't get together until 1997.)

    1. Not sure about a DVD, but The Colfax Museum has a copy of the 45 rpm record.

  2. I live in Louisiana. My understanding years ago was that the band Cahoots that originally cut the record, never released the record at all with the exception of the promotional 45's that were distributed to the radio stations. Have you ever heard that story?

    1. We lived next door to the lead singer and he gave us a copy of the album. It is a great memory of my childhood. I wore that record out listening to it over and over. I wish I still had it.

    2. I was a bartender at the 4 seasons. When Cahoots first cut the 45 I got several copies and sent to my mother who had friends at a few radio station in Winnsboro and my sisternlaw worked for KNOE in Monroe I know copies were given there. Sadly when they recorded the song they had recently lost their fiddle player, her fiddle really made a awesome song exceptional. When her fiddle was replaced with another guitar the song didn't have the same impact. Still an awesome song and Lloyd was an amazing song writer and his wide had an amazing voice

    3. I looked online until I found Lloyd and the address where he lives. I thought about writing to him just to say hi and let him know that many people remember him and his song. I've looked and looked for the 45 or the album with no success yet. I've also looked for photographs I could copy or buy, memorabilia, etc of the Four Season - again no luck. But I haven't given up.

  3. The Band released a Vinyl LP of 10 songs in 1983 titled "In Cahoots". It Included Legend of the Parlangua, Dark Eyes, Rundown Love and 7 other popular songs from performances. I used to go see them at the Four Seasons - great Band.

  5. For 12 years I lived across the street from the four seasons while Cahoots was the house band.
The recording of the parlingua without the fiddle player is very inferior to the song live with the fiddle in the old four seasons.
The band was remarkable. Loyd was the only male vocalist I ever heard that could do justice to any Marty Robins song. Annie could make the hair stand up on the back of your neck just like Patsy Cline.
Wish I could sit there and listen to them again.

  10. I still haven't found a 45 - but I did purchase an album finally. The cover is in prestine condition. Album was slightly warped so I was relieved when it still played perfectly. I still haven't found anyone with any photos of the band or the outside or inside of the venue (4 Seasons). But I did purchase Lloyd's autograph on Ebay a few years ago. :)
