September 8, 2013 – Eat, Drink, and Be Merry for 22q!
22q is short for 22q11.2 deletion, a genetic
condition that affects one out of every two thousand people. Those born with the micro-deletion are
affected differently – over 180 different manifestations have been identified,
including serious heart and palate malformations,
endocrine and immune disorders, cognitive impairment, speech and language
impairment, psychiatric issues, and significant learning differences. With
proper diagnosis and appropriate interventions and follow up, these kids can
lead healthy, happy lives. Children’s Hospital Colorado’s 22q Clinic works in
conjunction with National Jewish and a variety of healthcare providers to
coordinate the best care for our kids.
The specialty clinic was started by the Genetics Department at
Children’s –and a few local parents. Thank
you so much for your support!
