Incorporated
as its own town in 1888, Montclair was developed as an alternative to
the hustle and bustle of downtown Denver (as well as its hundreds of
saloons and brothels). The building of saloons, as well as the sale of
alcohol in Montclair was strictly prohibited. The original boundaries of
Montclair were Holly St (to the West), Colfax Avenue (to the North),
Quebec St (to the East) and 6th Avenue (to the South).
