Aurora Fox Theatre's 28th Annual Gala Benefit

     The 28th Annual Gala Benefit for the Performing Arts in Aurora on Saturday, Sept. 8 starts at
6 p.m. and offers you the opportunity to show your support for the arts in Aurora with
drinks, dinner, eclectic silent auction, and—back by popular demand—a sampling from each
show in the upcoming season! Sponsorship levels include:
     Event Sponsor: ($1,000) Your organization will truly be what they call in the theater trade, an angel. On this opening night you and nine of your guests will attend a professionally catered event including carefully matched premium wines. Of course, your company’s name and logo will receive the most prominent display in the Plaza area, in the program, in the Chamber newsletter, and on the sponsor plaque in the Historic Fox. After food and drinks, nine of the best seats in the house will be set aside for you to enjoy a variety of performances by the Aurora Fox Theater Company.
     Of course, you will be recognized both from the theater stage and prior to the curtain going up, as the primary event supporter. In addition, you’ll receive a special ticket package for future performances, and your name will be prominently listed in all future Aurora Fox programs during the season.
     THE PRODUCER: ($600) On this glittering opening night you and five other guests will attend a professionally catered event featuring fine Italian cuisine by Carrabba’s Italian Grill, served with carefully matched premium wines. Your company’s name and logo will be prominently displayed in the Plaza area, in the program, in the Chamber newsletter, and on the sponsor plaque in the Historic Fox. After food and drinks, six of the best seats in the house will be set aside for you to enjoy a series of performances by the Aurora Fox Theater Company. Of course, you will be recognized both from the theater stage and prior to the curtain going up, as a prime supporter. In addition, you’ll receive a company ticket package for a future performance, and your name will be prominently listed in all future Aurora Fox programs during the season.
     THE DIRECTOR: ($400) On opening night you and three others will enjoy superb Carrabba’s cuisine and fine wine on the Plaza. Your company name and logo will be prominently displayed in the theater. You will also be recognized from the Fox stage. You will be listed in all programs throughout the season. And you will have four reserved seats right up front in the Fox for the gala season opener.
     THE STAR: ($200) For you and one other, you’ll join in the festivities of a Carrabba’s prepared pre-play event including a variety of premium wines. Your company name will be displayed on the program that night and throughout the season and you will enjoy the performance from two reserved seats that are guaranteed to be some of the best in the house.
     Once again this year, the extremely popular sampling of a whole season’s shows will be presented on this special evening, Sept. 8. You’ll see excerpts from A Christmas Carol, Wooden Snowflakes, Consider the Oyster, The Color Purple and a special extended preview of the season premier of the very funny Steve Martin comedy, Picasso at the Lapin Agile.
     The plaza area, decorated in a theme in keeping with the evening’s performance, may be reached through the Fox and opens with the Silent Auction at 6:00 p.m. A beautifully prepared and presented food and wine buffet will be available for your dining pleasure in this unique outdoor setting. Curtain rises at 8 p.m. A special dessert and gourmet coffee will be served on the Plaza following the play. Black tie is encouraged, but not, of course, required. Individual tickets are $50.00.
     The Historic Aurora Fox Arts Center is located in the center of Original Aurora at 9900 East Colfax Avenue. Free parking is conveniently located behind the Fox and in the MLK Library lot.

Steve Martin Comedy Opens New Season at Aurora Fox

   

      Steve Martin’s comedy “Picasso at the Lapin Agile,” where Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein meet by accident in a bar in Paris in 1904, will open September 14 for a one-month run at the Aurora Fox Theater, 9900 E. Colfax Avenue.
     One of the most popular live plays in the country for the past decade, “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” is the story of two brilliant young men on the verge changing the world, each in his own unique way. It’s about passion for ideas and for life, about romance, art, science, the Fourth Dimension and an E-shaped pie.

     The two geniuses argue over which one will have the greatest impact on the coming century. It turns out that honor belongs to a third young man who shows up late that night quite unexpectedly – from another dimension.

     The play is packed with charming, colorful characters – denizens of the Lapin Agile, a popular hangout for artists, thinkers, and adventurous night people rich and poor.

     “The play is just what you’d expect from Steve Martin – funny, charming, smart, silly at times, and always with a great big heart,” says Director/Producer John Ashton. “It moves quickly; it’s got a few delightful surprises, something to think about, and at least three love stories. And oh yeah, it’s real funny.”

     The play features some of the finest comic actors in the area, including Jack Wefso, Tupper Cullum, Rhonda Brown, and Steve Sealy, as well as a special guest appearance by nationally renowned local musician Jonny Barber.

Steve's Snappin' Dogs 5th Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest

     Steve's Snappin' Dogs (an East Coast-style hot dog joint located at 3525 East Colfax Avenue) will host its 5th annual hot dog eating contest on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., in Civic Center Park as part of A Taste of Colorado's Culinary Showcase. The event will feature one dozen contestants who will compete in an eight minute hot dog eating competition. The winner will be crowned "Top Dog of Denver" and first, second and third place winners will receive trophies in honor of their successful placement.

      Unlike other hot dog eating contests, Steve's Snappin' Dogs requires contestants to eat their hot dogs picnic style - bun and all, with no dunking allowed. The event is open to the first dozen applicants who
sign up prior to the event and is free of charge to enter. Each participating contestant will receive a free "Bite Me" T-Shirt provided by Steve's and a certificate of participation as well as coupons to Steve’s Snappin Dogs for future enjoyment and bragging rights.

      This highly visual event is free, open to the general public, and will take place in Civic Center Park as part of A Taste of Colorado's Culinary Showcase. Contestants will be picked on a First Come – First serve basis. To qualify, potential contestants must sign up at 10:30 a.m., at the Culinary Showcase Tent located at the Greek Amphitheatre in Civic Center Park. Athena Art Project Announces its World Premiere

Athena Project Announces its WORLD PREMIERE!

     Athena Project is excited to announce our World Premiere scheduled for March 2013!  The Premiere of Tell Martha Not to Moan by Clinnesha D. Sibley will take place at The Aurora Fox Studio (9900 E.      Clinnesha D. Sibley is a published poet and award-winning playwright from McComb, Mississippi.  Her plays have been presented for the Arkansas Repertory Theatre’s Voices at the River Playwriting Residency, NYCPlaywrights Play of the Month Series, D.C. Black Theatre Festival, TheatreSquared’s Arkansas New Play Festival, Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and Penumbra Theatre’s highly acclaimed Word(s)PLAY! Program.  In 2009, she received the Key Woman Educator in Drama Award from the Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society.  In 2011,her play, Tell Martha Not to Moan, received the Holland New Voices Award at the Great Plains Theatre Conference, was a semifinalist in the 2012 Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference, and a semi-finalist in Athena Project’s Plays In Progress Series which concluded in Denver at the end of July, 2012. Her short play, Bound by Blood, is published in Black Magnolias Literary Journal. Clinnesha is an Assistant Professor of Drama at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

     Tell Martha Not to Moan is about the 40th Commemoration of the Detroit Riot.  A series of memories taking place in a family home in Detroit, 2007, takes us on a unique and personal journey with a devoted and desolate elderly couple. With compelling dialogue and complex relationships, Tell Martha Not to Moan is a glimpse into the changing world as viewed from one African American home.
