Sancho's Broken Arrow makes repairs to ceiling

You might've seen a picture floating around Facebook this morning in which it looks like part of the ceiling caved in at Sancho's Broken Arrow at Colfax Avenue and Clarkson. Turns out, the soffit around the bar indeed slipped. But according to Jay Bianchi, folks worked through the night repairing it, and it's completely secure now. "It looks actually better than it did," says Bianchi, "because we moved some tile and put some more posters up." (Courtesy Westword)

Pretty Lights coming to The Odgen Theatre

Colfax Avenue has seen a lot of changes since Hisashi Takimoto opened Taki's two decades ago. And Taki's went through changes, too, including a couple of locations and a variety of names: Taki's Healthy Japanese Food Restaurant, Taki's Golden Bowl. After Takimoto passed away in 2009, the restaurant got a new owner, Keiho Omine, and earlier this year, it got a major renovation, a new menu and another variation on it's name: Taki's Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar. But regulars reported that it was hard to find a time when Taki's was open -- and now, according to Westword, it looks like it could be gone for good.

"Given that the dining room was empty I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only regular customer to turn around and never come back," says one former customer.

"We all miss Taki-san!" says another.

And that ginger miso soup, which regulars swore was better than a shot for fending off the flu.

Ex-Pats open Abbey Tavern in Denver

Is it every Irishman’s secret dream to own a Pub? If the Irish pub scene in the Denver Boulder metro is an indicator you might think yes, as the majority of pubs are Irish owned and run.

This month you can add ex-Pats Glen Eastwood and Andrew Cudden to the list of Irish Pub owners when they open the Abbey Tavern at 5151 E. Colfax Avenue (303-321-5151).

Eastwood is no stranger to the bar business. Over the past decade in Denver, he has been a well-respected barman managing Casey’s Bistro & Pub and Fado Irish Pub. His transitions from pub manager to pub owner took a logical course. “I got into this business 11 years ago and found that it was something I really enjoyed, then I got to a point were I wanted my own place. Said Eastwood who added, “I drank in Irish pubs all my life and I have tried to build a pub that reflects all that is fun and inviting in an Irish pub.” Cudden, on the other hand owns a painting business in Denver, but made it clear that owning a pub was one of his goals. “I set up Emerald Isle Irish Painting company back in ‘98 and I have worked very hard to get it to this point, the next step for me was to hopefully own an Irish pub in Denver that I could be proud of.”

It took a while for Eastwood and Cudden to find the right space in the right location a space and after a few false starts they came across a building that was to become the Abbey. “We are in the Parkhill neighborhood and we really felt like Parkhill would be a great location for the type of bar that we had planned to build.” The Abbey is also located off a bus route and will share a parking lot with Nuggs Gourmet Ice Cream Shop (opening in January). Most urban business owners would be happy enough to have free parking onsite, however, Eastwood is already planning alternative use for the parking lot over that special time in March. “The building had such character and it also had a parking lot that we could use for the likes of St Patrick’s day!”

The Abbey Tavern is named after a bar in the fishing village of Howth, Ireland. The inspiration to name it so, came by way of the 5 archways that are visible from Colfax Avenue. “From very early in the plans we decided these would make great tables to put in garage doors and create 6 top tables with 3 people sitting inside the pub and 3 people out on the patio,” said Eastwood.

The Abbey will open for happy hour at 4pm Monday to Friday and at 10am Saturday and Sunday serving Brunch until 3pm. They will have a full kitchen serving food until 10pm Sunday through Thursday and open midnight Friday and Saturday. The menu will offer the Irish staples including Irish breakfast, beef stew, fish & chips, etc., and also a wide variety of appetizers and sandwiches. The social lubricants and food enhancers from the bar will include the usual Irish favorites on tap – Guinness, Smithwicks and Mangers as well as a wide variety of local brews on tap and in a bottle. According to Eastman they will open the Abbey with deals to attract new customers. “We will be offering a very aggressive happy hour Monday to Friday 4-7pm with all well, wine and draft at $3 and all apps $5.95. We will also be offering an all-day everyday special of $4 liquor feature and $3 pint feature.”

In the New Year the sounds of live Irish acoustic music will be heard on Monday nights and Geeks Who Drink bar trivia will bring in some fun folks on Thursday nights. Of course there will be dart boards inside and corhole and giant jingo to play on the patio. According to Eastman you also can bring your own electronics to play or communicate. “All tables inside and on the patio have been fitted with power so you will have no problem powering up those tablets and smart phones,…The modern world!” And don’t worry about missing any Bronco games as the lads have you covered with the NFL package!

Both Eastman and Cudden are beaming with pride with their dream pub that has come to fruition and look forward to sharing it with friends and neighbors. “We have put a lot of time and effort creating what we hope is a warm and welcoming Irish pub. We looked around locally and at home and took all the things we have liked in other places and incorporated those things with our own ideas to make best use of such a unique space.” Enthused Eastman and Cudden added, “We also hired a local artist to build our back bar out of stone and really nice aged wood, we are so happy with the results and we think you will be too.”

The art deco gas station that still sits on this lot now (recently developed into a 7-11) must have been built not long after this photo was taken. This is directly across the street from where Pete's Kitchen and The Satire are today, the apartment building directly ahead is where Mama's Cafe (formerly IHOP) is now. You can see the Aladdin Theatre and castle-like Weicker Transfer & Storage building down the street.

Houston, We Have a Problem

Originally a genuine report of a life-threatening fault, and now used humorously to report any kind of problem, the phrase 'Houston, we have a problem' is right up there with 'Beam me up Scotty' at the top of the spaceflight-related quotations tree. In fact, both are slight misquotations.

Astronaut John Swigert, Jr. (who graduated from East High School on Colfax Avenue) and James Lovell who, along with Fred Haise Jr., made up the crew of the US's Apollo 13 moon flight, reported a problem back to their base in Houston on 14th April, 1970.

'Houston, we have a problem' is often credited to the project's leader Lovell. Actually, not only did Lovell not say the phrase, he wasn't even the first not to say it, if you see what I mean.

Swigert and then Lovell (almost) used the phrase to report a major technical fault in the electrical system of one of the Service Module's oxygen tanks:

Swigert: 'Okay, Houston, we've had a problem here.'

Houston: 'This is Houston. Say again please.'

Lovell: 'Houston, we've had a problem. We've had a main B bus undervolt.'

'Houston, we have a problem' was used later as the tagline for the 1995 film - Apollo 13. It is the dialogue of the film, edited for dramatic effect, that is now best remembered:

Uh, this is Houston. Uh, say again, please?

Houston, we have a problem. We have a main bus B undervolt.

The issue of the film brought about a renewal in the use of the line and, from then onwards, it began being used in non-spaceflight contexts. The first example of such that I can find is as the title of a none too favourable review in the Los Angles Times, July 1995, of a restaurant called Houstons:

Houston('s), we have a problem - Houston's is yet another slick corporate package, the antithesis of a mom-and-pop restaurant. 

The phrase was used again, in 2001, to report the health and addiction problems of the singer Whitney Houston. More recently still, it has been called out of retirement, as "Wii have a problem", for use in stories about injuries caused by over-enthusiastic use of the Nintendo game console.

Abraham Lincoln Indirectly Helps Apprehend Rapist

A week ago, I was out wandering around Colfax, as I am prone to do, and spotted a man who looked very much like Abraham Lincoln riding his bicycle, replete with beard and a stovepipe hat!! As he passed by, I asked if he wanted to stop and chat. He obliged, and as it turned out he had a very interesting story to tell. Not only was he the one-time official Abraham Lincoln impersonator for Mt. Rushmore, but he was also at one time the victim of an assault, which backfired on the assailant and actually led to the assailant's arrest for other, outstanding warrants.

Denver Serial Rapist William Burton Costello Arrested: Colorado's 69-year old Everett Stadig, personhood activist and member of Denver Bible Church, was assaulted in the line of duty (while collecting pro-life signatures). When the police DNA tested the suspect, they found out that William Burton Costello was a criminal wanted for serial rape of three women, ages 13, 22, and 49, from 2008 to 2011. (Update: Costello was charged with a fourth rape in 2013 and his defense attorneys have been desperately trying to help him get away with his crimes.)

     Everett Stadig, long-time Mt. Rushmore employee, is an active Christian pro-lifer and an Abe Lincoln look alike. On June 30, 2012 during the final push to gather signatures for Colorado’s Personhood amendment, 69-year-old Stadig was collecting signatures in front of the Stapleton King Soopers grocery store when he was attacked and thrown off his bike to the ground by a man who became enraged because Everett was asking for signatures "to protect unborn children." A witness who saw the attack recorded the assailant’s license plate number and gave it to the police. Everett was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he underwent surgery for a broken hip.

In the following weeks, Mr. Stadig, concerned that the crime against him was not being investigated, enlisted the help of other pro-lifers and two volunteer attorneys to pressure the Denver police department to investigate the crime. Yet it turns out that the police were pursuing the matter, and eventually brought assault and rape charges against the perpetrator, a successful Denver businessman.

In August, William Costello was arrested for the attack on Everett Stadig. “Katie’s Law” allows law enforcement to procure DNA samples after a felony arrest. That DNA linked William Costello to three rapes for which he was charged on November 16, 2012.

Regarding the charge against Costello for the assault on Stadig, "It's rather shocking," said Denver pastor and radio host Bob Enyart:

The police gave Costello a charge of only second-degree assault when Everett, a 69-year-old man, was attacked while straddling his bicycle and asking for signatures on his personhood petition. To add insult to injury, the D.A.'s office didn't even speak to the victim until September 18th, whereas they entered the mere second-degree charge on August 11th, after talking only to the perpetrator and not the victim. In addition to Everett, at least one witness, and perhaps others, spoke with police. The perpetrator, now known to be a pro-abortion Democrat with ties to high-profile governing officials including a former governor, was angry that Everett was a pro-lifer. Costello at first walked away toward his vehicle, then returned, and assaulted Everett by throwing him to the ground. The force of the impact broke Everett's hip. This is a first-degree assault on an at-risk adult and the Denver D.A. Mitchell Morrissey should upgrade this charge against this out-of-control and dangerous offender.

Correcting the charge to first-degree assault might also help to correct the media from falsely reporting that Costello's arrest was the result of "a fight in a parking lot." The characterization of the assault in this Denver Post headline, "Denver parking lot fight leads to suspect in three unsolved rapes," is absurd to everyone who knows meek and mild Everett. And it might help if the Post's reporter Jessica Fender would speak to the victim.

Lynn Kimbrough with the Denver district attorney’s office stated:

William Costello, 47, has been charged with two counts of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of sexual assault on a child, three counts of sexual assault, and two counts of impersonating a peace officer. Costello was arrested and charged in July 2012 with assault on an at-risk adult following a confrontation between Costello and a man collecting petition signatures. “Costello’s DNA was taken at the time of his arrest pursuant to Katie’s Law, and was then linked to three unsolved sexual assault cases occurring in 2008, 2010, and 2011.

Kimbrough appears to have misspoke saying the arrest was in July, since the arrest affidavit is dated August 9 and the D.A. indicated to Stadig that this first arrest was made on August 11.

Costello, whose rape victims range in age from 13 to 49, as reported by the Denver Post, is a successful real estate broker who has ties to "high profile Democrats," all of whom of course are pro-abortion, including being a long-time family friend of former governor Dick Lamm who introduced in 1967 Colorado's first law to decriminalize the killing of unborn children. DNA evidence indicates that William Costello raped a 13 year old girl in March 2008, a 22 year old woman in 2010, and a 49 year old woman in 2011. The Post also reported that Costello was arrested while driving the car of a top political strategist, who they haven't named, while distributing yard signs to a Durango, Colorado Democratic campaign office, and that about a year after the rape of the 13 year old, Costello attended a birthday party for a grandson of Governor Lamm.

Back in July, Everett Stadig told the pro-life media that he was attacked because he collecting personhood signatures. In a telephone interview from his hospital bed, Stadig told LifeSiteNews that the man was “in his mid-thirties and looked about six foot tall.” He refused to sign, and began to swear and shout at Stadig. “He was yelling ‘I’m pro-choice!’” Stadig recalled, adding that he used “most foul language."

Stadig explained that being ‘pro-choice’ meant pro-abortion, and again urged him to sign. At first the man walked away, but returned half a minute later, still swearing and yelling. "He said 'you don’t have a right to be here!'" Stadig related, "and I said 'I do have a right to be here, this is a Colorado Petition Drive'. Then he grabbed my petition pad, and with the same movement threw me to ground, and I was hurt so bad I couldn’t get up."

Seems Mr. Costello has a dog in the fight for personhood. Where is a rapist going to get rid of the evidence of his crime without the abortionist? American Right To Life's leading article on the rape "exception" has been updated:

As for the men who use women, like serial rapist William Costello who assaulted an elderly pro-life activist Everett Stadig who was merely collecting personhood signatures, rapists as a group are pro-choice because abortion entices them to think they will get away with their crime.

In this news report Denver District Attorney, Mitchell R. Morrissey said that this crime is one of the most “significant offenses that we’ve had” and that without Katie’s law the cases would have gone unsolved. Everett Stadig is thankful also for the dogged perseverance of pro-life attorneys Rebecca Messall and Barry Arrington. And the pro-life community is thankful that while Everett who working to protect the innocent and deter the guilty, he indirectly became involved in the apprehension of a serial rapist.

It remains to be seen whether Stadig's sense that the police were leaving him out of the investigation was merely wrong, or resulted from the pro-choice campaign activist being a well-connected Democrat, or because Costello was suspected in the more serious rape crimes. What is now known is that the D.A.'s office was more interested in talking to the criminal, Costello, than to the victim, Everett, and perhaps due to that failure gave this angry Costello a gift by undercharging him.

Additional Questions: Did the police attempt to obtain King Soopers surveillance video that is believed to exist prior to the D.A. filing a second-degree charge? Will the police let the victim know whether such video exists?  

Hear Everett interviewed from his hospital bed just two days after his assault in the BEL radio program Romneycare upheld and Abe Lincoln felled. And see Stadig's role in the Hostility Met with Hospitality event hosted by Colorado Right To Life at a National RTL conference, which event helped to give traction to the pro-life strategy which will lead to enforcement of the God-given right to life of the unborn child, Personhood!

Update: Regarding pro-choice serial rapist William Costello, Westword newspaper's alleged journalist Michael Roberts has reported that the alleged DA office spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough has stated that "two other people came forward with information" bringing the number, in addition to the previously reported serial rapes, to five separate crimes, apparently in addition to the assault on Stadig. Halfway through Roberts report, he has a floating reference, "In the wake of Costello's arrest..." But what arrest? As Denver's media has generally underreported and misreported the assault on Everett that led to Costello's arrest and becoming a suspect as a serial rapist, Roberts doesn't even tell his alleged readers what the arrest was for, nor about the sixth victim, an at-risk adult who suffered a broken hip at Costello's hands.

Update: Apparently, on Aug. 11, 2012, the D.A. charged the perpetrator with only second-degree assault after only talking to the offender, whereas his office had not even talked to the pro-life victim, Mr. Stadig, who did not get to speak with the D.A.s office until Sept. 18.

As Denver emerges as a national cultural hub, we also invite the public to join in the conversation, networking and attending live performances that showcase the vibrant local and national music scene while exploring new channels and inspire dialogue among fans, policymakers and music professionals.

There are no limits to how music can be packaged, delivered and consumed. As the music industry continues to search for sustainable models, musicians are tasked to abandon conventional formats in a rapidly changing environment and reinvent what success means. SIGNing Off

This article, recently brought to our attention by Save The Signs on Colfax, was originally printed in The Urban Dweller newsletter in April of 1974, and describes efforts by Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods to encourage businesses to stop using animated signs:

On Dec. 8, 1973. Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods, Inc., began a campaign to persuade businesses which had flashing or moving signs to adjust the signs so that they no longer flashed or moved. Forty eight businesses with such signs which were within CHUN's geographic boundaries or had a visual impact on the neighborhood were contacted by letter by CHUN president, Michael Henry.

The businesses were asked to adjust their signs "because flashing and moving signs are in violation of the Denver City Sign Code, because their ugliness contributes to the visual deterioration of the neighborhood, and because they are wasteful of energy in a time when energy should only be used for necessary purposes."

To date, twenty-seven of the forty eight businesses contacted in the Capitol Hill area have adjusted their signs so that they no longer flash or move.

Mr. Richard Kuratli of the Bluebird Theater responded by letter to say that he does not believe that the flashing lights of his theater are ugly; that the theater does save some electricity by reducing the time the lights operate; that the sign is apparently not illegal "as we were permitted to leave ours connected"; and that "flashing lights add greatly to the Bluebird Theater atmosphere - therefore do not expect any cooperation."

Mr. Thomas Inslee of Taco-Toro wrote to outline the considerable energy reduction measures his company was already using, to express his belief that moving signs are not in violation of the city sign code, and to express his sincere interest in the neighborhood. The moving Taco-Toro sign has been turned off in recent weeks, but this may be due to a malfunction in the sign.

Mr. Gilbert Goldstein, an attorney representing both the Broadway Plaza Motel and the Royal Palace Motel, expressed his opinion that their moving sign was not illegal and that they were not "garish and ugly, but on the contrary, in my view are quite attractive and perform a useful function". He expressed willingness to meet with the CHUN president to discuss the matter further, and said "I hope that if such a meeting occurs, you will wear a tie which I will not consider garish and ugly."

Mr. Sid King of Sid King's Crazy Horse Bar wrote, "I have a high opinion of your civic association. I agree with you about the signs. As soon as I received your letter, I called the sign company and told them to disconnect the revolving mannequin and all flashing signs."

Since CHUN's first letter (and, obviously, "since" is not necessary interchangeable with "because of") as of press time, the following businesses had turned their signs off, and are deserving of thanks from the community:

Pot Dizzied Chiefs Lose Sunday Night's Game

Multiple NFL teams have complained the high marijuana to oxygen ration inside Mile High Stadium gives the marijuana-trained Broncos an unfair advantage at home against incoming teams from states where marijuana remains appropriately illegal.

Denver, Colorado – Shocking new reports from sources in Denver confirm that Denver Broncos personnel were seen flooding Mile High Stadium with marijuana smoke, inundating the stadium with copious clouds of the mind-altering chemical moments before the game.  Sources claim Denver Broncos staff also flooded the Chief’s locker room with a constant stream of marijuana smoke before the game and during halftime, as they have done with other teams for the last two years.

NBC commentators noted that several Chiefs players, including veteran quarterback Alex Smith, complained of instantly feeling ‘dizzy and nauseated’ when they took to the stadium to do stretches and practice before the game started. Chief’s coach Andy Reid complained of feeling like he was ‘having a stroke’ as he stood on the sideline, trying to focus on his players and finding out why his receivers continually dropped passes throughout the first half of the Sunday night game.

“It is suspicious when you have Charles dropping five your toss-ups and Peyton Manning chucking 60-yard touchdown passes off his left foot to his receivers, our guys hardly able to keep their balance and giggling,” a stoic Andy Reid said, saying the Chiefs will get beyond this game and prepare for San Diego next week.

Chiefs fans watching the game on Jumbo-tron back at Arrowhead Stadium were equally skeptical.  ”You have to wonder if the Broncos are trying to give out contact high to incoming teams.  They train in marijuana-laden conditions, other teams cannot compete with that. There is a conspiracy going on here and it involves the government of Colorado itself,” Chiefs fan Nadia Botwin stated.

Botwin may have a reasonable concern.  The Chief’s receivers did drop the ball more than usual and even more questionable, the Chief’s usually devastating pass rush was nothing but wobbly legs and failed tackling attempts against an aging quarterback.

The image at right blatantly shows a marijuana-conditioned Broncos player walking through a field of marijuana smoke earlier this season.

If the evidence and accusations are correct, the Broncos are actively training in marijuana heavy conditions and then flooding the locker rooms of visiting teams with marijuana, and the stadium with marijuana, making the other team devastatingly ‘high’ and unfocused throughout the game.

And this is the secret to how the Broncos are pulling off victories like they did tonight.  I will draft an official letter to the NFL to investigate the Bronco’s underhanded strategies, which again, has been an ongoing complaint by multiple teams playing against this morally questionable franchise.

In this video image, look at how the Chief’s coach cannot resist playing tickle fingers with Fisher here.  This is not natural and the exact type of behavior you would expect to see of someone who was just forced to inhale Colorado’s classic, cruddy skunk weed for the first time.

Dwayne Bowe was caught this week training for the game, by trying to smoke a little last second bowl as he sped toward the team practice. Officers dropped charges for now after the Chief’s staff explained how the players have to ‘try to train’ against the Bronco’s cheating techniques.

You have to wonder how much of Satan’s laughing gas Peyton Manning smoked to play on that broken ankle, pain free.  You don’t just ‘snap’ your ankle the week before, get a questionable MRI, then go out to chuck 60-yard touchdown passes on the run on your ‘bum’ right ankle without hopping up on some sort of drugs.  Considering Manning was not falling asleep as he studied the Chief’s playbook on the sideline, we can only guess he was high on marijuana.

Colburn Automobile Company

The Colburn Automobile Company was a Brass Era car manufacturer in Denver, Colorado. The company produced cars from 1906-1911 in their factory at 15th Street and Colfax Avenue.

Colburns were built as a roadster, and later as a touring car (Model 35). They were fashioned after the French Renault with the radiator positioned behind the sloping hood. The Model 30 and Model 40 roadsters were fast with a top speed of 72 miles per hour and often competed in road races and track events around the Denver area. The roadster featured a 4-cylinder, 40HP engine and 4 speed transmission and sold for $4,500.00. A large shiny brass "C" emblazoned the front of the automobiles.


The Colburn Family

Herbert C. Colburn and Ernest A. Colburn Jr. were the sons of Judge Ernest A. Colburn (E.A. Colburn). The Judge was a very wealthy man, having made his fortune as a mine owner in the Cripple Creek, Colorado mining district. H.C. and his brother E.A. Jr. were inventors and always interested in engineering and technology. They held at least 2 patents for the design of mining machinery. At one time, the brothers ran the Ajax Mine in Victor, one of the many mines owned by the Judge.

The Judge was the financial backer of the automobile; it was designed and built by his sons. There was a falling out between the Judge and his sons, possibly over Judge Colburn's divorcing the boys' mother and remarrying another woman. This dispute resulted in the Judge closing the factory and putting an end to the Colburn automobile.

No Colburn automobiles are known to exist today.

KDVR TV gives “A+” for La Abeja

KDVR's “A+” of the week is La Abeja on East Colfax Avenue for back-to-back perfect inspections. The restaurant at 508 East Colfax in Denver had perfect scores on its most recent health inspections.
Issac Valadez credits his father for their high standards. “We try to maintain it as clean as possible. He pushes us to be as good as we can.”
Valadez said the recognition on our report gives his family owned business a reason to smile.  Hemmat asked, “How do you say good job in Spanish?
“Buenta vaco,” Valadez said.

“Andro Queen” was conceived and directed by filmmaker Ondi Timoner through her Interloper Films production company.  Timoner won the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary Features at the Sundance Film Festival twice and has work permanently displayed at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.  She also produced and directed the original VH-1 series “Sound Effects,” and directed the opening film for President Clinton’s 2011 birthday/fundraiser held at the Hollywood Bowl that featured Steven Spielberg, Barbra Streisand, Jay-Z, and the President, among others.

ABOUT THE PIXIES:

The Boston-formed Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement.  Their five studio releases and initial six years together effectively blazed the path for groups like Nirvana, Radiohead and Pearl Jam to rise to superstardom.  The Pixies disbanded in 1993 and launched their reunion tour in April, 2004 when virtually every single date sold out within minutes and fans traveled hundreds of miles to attend a show.  The Pixies shattered sales records around the world, SPIN called it 2004's "Comeback of the Year," and the band wrapped up 2004 in New York City with 24,000 tickets sold for an unprecedented eight-night, sold-out run at Hammerstein Ballroom.  The Pixies continued their reunion tour in 2005, and then to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their 1989 album Doolittle, launched the "Doolittle Tour" on October 1, 2009 in Dublin, performing the entire album beginning to end.  The SRO tour was so successful it lasted for two years, taking the band to 18 countries, playing 117 shows.

In May, 2013, it was announced that founding member Kim Deal had decided to leave the Pixies.  Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made it clear that Kim's place in the band would always be there for her.

On June 28, 2013, the Pixies posted on their website a free download of "Bagboy," the band's first new song in nearly a decade, and an accompanying music video.  In less than a month, there were more than one-million downloads/streams of the song, more than 15,000 digital purchases of "Bagboy" - a song that was given away for FREE - and more than one-million YouTube views of the LAMAR+NIK-directed music video.  On July 1, an extensive European tour was announced; second shows were added in many cases, and most of the shows have already sold out.  On July 25, 2013, the band announced eight U.S. club shows, four in Los Angeles, four in New York, all of which sold out in minutes.  

On September 3, 2013, Pixies released EP-1, the band's first collection of new music in more than 20 years.  EP-1 was available exclusively on the band’s website as a DDL and as a limited edition (5000) 10-inch vinyl disc.  In the first day alone, the vinyl completely sold out, and the video had received more than a quarter-million YouTube views.  It is also announced that Kim Shattuck will play bass for the band on these upcoming tour dates.
